Quick Fix for Grainy or Noisy Images
February 2nd, 2007 • Bookmark on | del.icio.us | Digg It | RedditHere’s a possible quick Photoshop fix for those of you with an image that’s too grainy or noisy (a fairly common problem with many digital cameras at higher ISO settings).
This may be obvious for you PS masters, but I’m constantly reminded by the frequent basic questions from pro photographer pals that many of them (and maybe you) prefer to spend time taking photographs and only use PS minimally.
OK, the basic quick fix to try:
- Filter | Noise | Despeckle
That’s it. Every time you invoke the filter, it “cleans” up your image a bit. Do it as many times as you feel necessary, inspecting your image after each try. Pay close attention to how each try affects your whole image, not just the grain/noise; you’ll need to decide yourself when enough is enough (get familiar with the “Edit | Undo” command while you’re at it).
Won’t obviously work in extreme situations, but worth a shot.
