A woman walked into a camera shop to return her recently purchased camera. When the salesperson asked, “Is it broken?” she replied, “No, it just does not do all the things I wanted it to do.” After patient listening, the salesperson asked, “Did you read any of the book that came with the camera?” The woman quickly responded, “NO, I just did not have time and really did not have any desire to do all that reading.”
Many people do not take the time to read all the in-depth material contained in their camera manuals. As a result, some people do not get past the basic pointing and shooting of their cameras. If you want to get more value and expertise with your camera, spend the time to read and practice all the gems in the manual.
- Review the table of contents. This will give you an overview of everything covered. Flip through the chapters and look at all the subheads. This will get you excited when you read the guts of the material.
- Set aside a few minutes to read about the features of the camera. Look at each feature with your camera in front of you. Examine each feature as you read about it.
- Use each of the features during the first week after you have reviewed them. This is critical in order to recall how to make them come alive and work for you.
BONUS TIP:
Have Your Camera Manual Read to You
Download the PDF version of your manual from the website of the manufacturer. Your Adobe Acrobat Reader program will open (download it free if you don’t have it). Once you open the manual PDF, click on the View option on the toolbar. Continue down the menu until you see the option Read Aloud.
You will have the option of having the entire document read or just the page shown on the screen. A female or male voice will read to you at a moderate pace. This wonderful feature will enable you to hear sections of the manual without needing to read that small print.
