Serif PhotoPlus 6
March 5th, 2007 • Bookmark on | del.icio.us | Digg It | RedditIt’s hard to beat free.
Especially when the freebie does a bang up do-alike imitation of Photoshop Elements’ functionalities!
Yeah, it’s at the lower end of the photo editing software scale, but just like Elements more than suits the needs of many photo buddies I know, so too may Serif PhotoPlus. It’s got just about all the basics covered tool-wise, and even lets you work in layers.
PhotoPlus 6 is an older version (I think the current version is 11, and 6 was released around 1999 or so), but the company has made 6 available gratis with no limitations. Obviously hoping that you’d love it and want to buy the latest. Risky, considering what 6 can do; then again, I’ve got to admit that based on what I’ve seen with 6, I’d be more than little bit curious about the latest version had I not already been so deeply entrenched (re: invested) in the Photoshop arena.
I’m sure it doesn’t do everything Elements can do — and since I’m an expert in neither, nor am I inclined to dig further, I’ll leave it at that. But for what it costs, I’d say the Serif PhotoPlus 6 cost:benefit ratio is way, way up there.
