You see a lot of lenses that have the IS or VR designations. This is Image Stabilization or Vibration Reduction. They mean the same thing except Canon uses the first term and Nikon uses the second. In the early days of digital cameras, I used to recommend to people who were interested in licensing out their images to purchase a Digital SLR (DSLR) with 6 or more megapixels. These days I also recommend that they first look at the camera’s sensor size. This is because there are cameras now on the market that are technically DSLRs, but don’t have a sensor size required to produce professional results.

Just FYI: Due to market saturation and the rise of more capable cell phone cameras, Scottsdale, Az.-hased market research firm IC Insights, Inc., thinks the digital still camera market will plateau and level off at $18 Billion this year.
